Project Description

Project name: Sinton Trail Crossing at Centennial Blvd
Facility name (street, trail or other names): Sinton Trail
Limits (cross streets, mile markers, etc.): Sinton Trail at Centennial Blvd
County(ies): El Paso
Municipality(ies): Colorado Springs

Project Description/Scope: Design and reconstruct the Sinton Trail crossing under Centennial Blvd.

The Sinton Trail is a Tier I Trail on the City’s Parks and Trails Master Plan providing access from the Pikes Peak Greenway to Garden of the Gods Park and other trail systems west of I-25. The trail is a substandard concrete urban trail that provides access to both business and neighborhoods. The City has undertaken several significant projects on the Sinton Trail to improve safety and connectivity, but has not been able to fund the reconstruction of the underpass.

The underpass is 130′ long as it crosses under Centennial Blvd, a 4-lane divided Principal Arterial with on-street bike lanes and sidewalks. It is difficult for cyclists to cross against each other given the narrow 5′ width and 7′ height over the 130′ distance. The proposed project includes design, construction and construction management. The crossing can only occur at its current location due to the drainageway immediately adjacent to the trail so additional ROW will not be needed.
